Chamber music a la “Palace”The first album of Incesaz, Eski Nisan (Aged April) is a little traditional, a little modern and always instrumental. Once you start listening, “Aged April” takes to far away. Maybe to the days of the old Ottoman Istanbul or you find yourself in a street paved in the old style or on a wet boat deck in the Bosphore… But one thing for sure, they take you from where you are and lift you out of your reality. With the melodies and sounds of tanbour, kemenche, oud, guitar, violoncello, ney, bendir and kanoun on this album you are with your own dreams but in a different world. “Aged April” is the fruit of 3 years work of the group. While we are interviewing the group, an old master of Turkish music comes in: Prof. Necdet Yaţar. He joins us with his own words: “I have some criteria. If a music makes you listen to it again and again, then it fits one criterion. Some music, you listen once and then never turn back to it and some music, you never finish with it. Incesaz seem to me to fit this second category as they catch this appeal. I appreciate and think about them a lot.” Radikal, 6 June 1999 , Sunday, page 17. |
